Roam is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how your data is handled when using the Roam mobile app and related services.

1. Information We Collect

Roam is designed with privacy in mind. We collect only the data necessary to provide the core functionality of the app:

  • Location Data (Optional): When you choose to use your current location to identify nearby landmarks, your GPS coordinates are used temporarily to generate relevant AI results. Your location is never stored or shared.
  • Photos (Optional): When you upload or take a photo using Roam, the image is temporarily processed using AI services to identify landmarks and generate guide content. Images are stored only on your device so that you can use them to view your local history.
  • Audio (Optional): If you use the audio guide feature, the app may generate text-to-speech locally or via a third-party provider. No audio recordings are collected or stored.

2. How We Use Your Information

Your data is used solely to provide personalized, high-quality travel insights. Specifically, we use it to:

  • Identify landmarks based on location or photo input
  • Generate rich textual and audio tour content
  • Improve app performance and reliability

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.

3. Data Storage & Retention

Roam does not store any data. Saved landmarks and history are stored locally on your phone. Photos and location data used for identification are never retained after processing.

4. Third-Party Services

Roam may rely on the following third-party services to provide key functionality:

  • Google Cloud Vision: Used for image recognition. You can review Google Cloud’s privacy policy at cloud.google.com.
  • OpenAI or equivalent LLM provider: Used to generate textual and audio descriptions. Data sent is anonymized and not tied to your identity.
  • Google Text-to-Speech APIs: Used for audio narration.

5. Data Security

We use modern security best practices to protect your data. Communications with any external APIs are encrypted via HTTPS. No personal identifiers are sent alongside requests to our AI providers.

6. Your Choices

You are always in control of your data. You can:

  • Decline to grant location or photo access
  • Uninstall the app to remove all locally stored data

7. Children’s Privacy

Roam is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

8. Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated as the app evolves. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date.
